morsi who comes from the egyptian brotherhood who are connected organically to hamas, and so by almost by definition, the situation is different because you have an egyptian government that is actually a patron of hamas. now, with that said what is most interesting to me is that here is an egyptian government that is a patron of hamas, organically linked to it and yet it is here actually trying to broker an end o of the to the cease-fire and not doing what many want it to do which is break with israel, instead what it is trying to do is broker a cease-fire in which it brings this conflict, this conflict to an end, and which it preserves a peace treaty with israel, because there is profound need on the part of the egyptian government to deal with their monumental economic problems and they realize if you break with israel you break the treaty, you are not going to be getting the kind of assistance and investments from the outside that you need. so in a sense, you have the senior partner in the relationship convincing hamas it is very much in their interests to end this. now, obviously,
